The 2025 Sweet Adelines Australia convention in Hobart was a blast! This was our second time to a regional convention as a chorus, after launching in Brisbane in 2023.
We performed two songs in the contest - In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning and I'll Sing About Anything. The latter is a custom arrangement of a song co-written by past chorus member Kerry Beaumont, with her friend Lesley Roberts. We were excited to bring this fun song about a love of singing to the stage - thanks to Glenda Lloyd for the great arrangement! An Australian song arranged by the first Australian Certified Music Arranger.
We're incredibly proud of our performance, which earnt us the third place small chorus medal! We felt very comfortable performing on the big stage – on risers, which is a rare treat for us – and received lots of great feedback from the audience and judges. Four of members made their contest debut too! Nat, Bev, Nancy and EmJay (pictured below) did an amazing job and we're sure they made some wonderful memories throughout the convention. We're so lucky to have them as part of our chorus!

Convention is wonderful not just for the contest aspect, but also because it is an opportunity for us to spend a lot of time together, doing what we love! We also get to share meals, walks, scootering, drinks, and plenty of chats, which all bring us closer together. Hobart is a fantastic place for a convention, and we really made the most of our time there! See some of our happy snaps below:
Now we want to send a huge public thanks to our amazing Musical Director, Julie Edwards! As well as pushing us each week to improve our vocal and performance skills, Julie made the convention experience so enjoyable. From finding a gorgeous rehearsal venue to personally laser cutting flash new name tags for all of us as a convention gift (on top of our Luminous Quartet earrings!), and keeping us relaxed in our preparations for the contest, she couldn't have done a better job of leading us. Julie never makes it about her, but she is an absolute star and we are thankful for her.

Congratulations to all of the other choruses and quartets who competed during convention! We thoroughly enjoyed all of the performances we saw – there is so much talent in Region 34. We were particularly excited to see Luminous Quartet give one of their most exciting performances to date, during the quartet contest (we’re not biased at all…). AND they were interviewed and performed two songs on ABC Radio Hobart - superstars!
After convention, we had an interesting day of education sessions run by our judging panel. Afterwards, some of our members headed home, while others stayed in Tasmania for a holiday, to experience some of the natural beauty – and of course, the delicious food and wine. What an amazing time we had!
