A Great Start to 2026!

Our first event for the year was a lovely catch-up in a local park on 11th of January. Coffee, snacks and good conversation were the order of the day. It was a hot day, but we enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with friends who we hadn’t seen for a few weeks!

In mid-January, our Musical Director, Julie, spent the weekend in Sydney at the annual Sweet Adelines Australia Directors' School. This year, the weekend included a keynote presentation from Naomi Crellin (from The Idea of North) and sessions run by our Regional Education Faculty. There was a focus on pedagogy (learning about teaching) - right up Julie's alley, and an important aspect of the musical director role.

Highlights from the weekend included learning about the expression judging category, discussing changes to the sound and music categories, singing with other attendees and participating in conducting sessions, and of course, all the social activities!

A key benefit of Directors' School is the opportunity to network and share ideas with other directors from across the country. Whether this is over dinner, drinks, or a game of cards, this exchange of knowledge and strengthening of connections is priceless.

We also hear that there were some new bands formed, with awesome album covers, mottos and secret handshakes! Sounds like some fun Saturday night activities!

To round out the month, our Music Team had a productive meeting to discuss our musical plans for the year. From rehearsals to performances, coaching and new member support, this team has it covered! We appreciate all their efforts.
