Making New Friends and Performing in the Community

Blue Sky Harmony has had a wonderful festive season! In November, we were joined by ten members of the community at our Festive Season Singing Workshop. Over four rehearsals, these keen singers learnt a beautiful arrangement of Maybe This Christmas with us, as well as a Christmas Bells round and part of an arrangement of When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter.

The finale of our November Festive Season Singing Workshop was our Christmas Concert. Our guests joined us to perform the three pieces of music that they’d learnt (see pics below), and then enjoyed the rest of the concert as audience members. We had a big crowd (nearly 90 people) on a very warm night in Brisbane, and had a fabulous time on stage!

As well as our choir and our workshop participants, the concert featured steelpan drumming duo Shaz and Matt (below left) and award-winning Barbershop Harmony Australia quartet Afterglow (below right). The show had great variety, thanks to these special guests and small groups from within Blue Sky Harmony.

The event was supported by the Lord Mayor’s Community Fund and the Councillor for McDowall Ward, Tracy Davis. Cr. Davis kindly joined us at the concert and donated a lovely lucky door prize!

Our other big Christmas performance this year was the North Lakes Christmas Carols. We performed at this annual event last year and were thrilled to sing on the big stage again. It’s exciting to sing for such a huge audience of families, out enjoying the beautiful blue skies that we experience in Queensland.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2023. It has been an amazing year for us – from conventions to concerts, coaching, social events, travel and lots of laughs with our singing friends. We hope you have also had lots of highlights in 2023. We wish you all a wonderful festive season and a safe and happy new year!
